The Band
They didn't know who they were, they didn't know who they wanted to be, they had an Unknown Identity
A junkie, two mafia guys and a donkey walk into a bar...

The barman says 'What do you want?'

They say 'We want four Tequillas and we wanna play music.'

Barman:  'What do you play?'

J2MGD:  'Whatever we like.'

Barman:  'Will I like it?'

J2MGD:  'Let us play and you'll find out.'

Barman: 'Ok, set up over there, if I like it the Tequillas are on the house.'

...and to this day they're still getting free Tequillas...

Live

So what really happened?

They’d all previously played in other bands (The Concrete Donkeys, The Biscuit Mafia, The Rhythm Junkies), for various reasons those journeys had come to an end. Individually they all knew they wanted to continue doing something, they weren’t sure what but they needed to go on a new journey...at that time, all but two of them, were unknown to each other.

That soon changed...now four people who have a similar interest, like having a good time, entertaining and keeping the audience guessing, they didn’t know each other, didn’t know what they were going to do, so they had an
Unknown Identity

They got together in Jan 2016, decided what sort of things they wanted to do and started rehearsing. They played their first gig at the Half Moon in Stoke Sub Hamdon in July of that year.   By their own admission they knew they were not particularly polished in the early gigs but with positive feedback from audiences they knew what they were doing was worth continuing with...

...now 8 years on and with the same line up from day one, they have played their 150th gig together (May 2023). They have polished off the rough edges and are now a tight unit. When they hit the 150 they had played in 47 different venues and played live 70+ different songs from 61 different artists. Rock and roll on to 200...

Unknown Identity are a covers band playing rock, indie, punk and some pop - but not as you know it! They play covers from the likes of The Cult, Blondie, Black Keys, Faithless, Clash, Jimmy Eat World, Guns N' Roses, Muse and Nirvana. They generally try to mix it up a bit so there is something for everyone - some fast, some slow and some heavy, but they do throw in the odd curve ball and cover a cover! They have been known to rock up some Atomic Kitten but the latest favourites are the Eurythmics, Lady Gaga and Wet Leg to name a few.

They are a great band and if you want to see a ‘covers band’ doing some things a little differently then check them out, we don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
